So Retro VGS is shutting down their Indiegogo campaign early. It's obvious they will not reach funding and have decided to release another prototype in the near future that will be much cheaper. They will be dropping some features of the console I'm guessing to get the price drop. They seemed to be in good spirits about this and I look forward to what they show us next. I hope they learned something from this and come back with something a little easier to swallow than $300.00. What about you guys? Giving up or will you be interested to see what they come up with?

They can't raise a quarter of a million or whatever they were going for?

They can't raise a quarter of a million or whatever they were going for? I'd be willing to bet it all hinged on that 300 dollar price tag. I'm sure most people shared the same sentiments we've been posting about it. Now that they're going back to the drawing board, I would like to see them focus more on an 8 to 16 device rather than a 32 bit one. Surely that would bring down the cost a bit right?

I get the feeling that's exactly what they are doing. I'm hoping they just drop all the "other features" of the Retro VGS they kept talking about and focus on making a cool 16-32 bit affordable console. In a few months they come back with a price around $150-$180 I'd say they could get funded. They dropped that $300 price not even 2 weeks before the Indiegogo campaign, everyone was either pissed or confused about it. Simplify the console, drop the price, SHOW US SOME GAMES and they should be good as gold.

I'll just say the closer they can get it to 100 the more likely I'll be to get one.

They need to move their focus away from custom colored consoles and back into game and hardware development. Problem is, it'd be dumb of any publisher to make an exclusive game for them when that's what they need, a KILLER exclusive game.

Yeah the custom colored consoles were my complaints before. Like you said they need that one exclusive title to put it on the map. Its gonna be a hard battle though competing against all these consoles with retro indie libraries selling from $5 to $20. Thats something else Fist and I had a discussion about was pricing for these carts for this system and these companies who make these games, whats keepin sony and microsoft away from asking to bring their games to their platforms for a fraction of the price and double in profit. You know these cart games are gonna cost $30 to $40 to pay for production. Thats around the same price for a good repro game thats for a console 9 out 10 you already have or can get for around $40.

I think this was just more of a clever idea.

I think this was just more of a clever idea. When a kickstarter or indiegogo fails doesn't the company get to keep the money they made anyway? Maybe it was just a clever ruse to pull the heartstrings of retro enthusiasts.

I'll just say the closer they can get it to 100 the more likely I'll be to get one. Unfortunately you get what you pay for with new electronics. If the price ended up on the lower end of $100.00 I'd be really worried about quality of the system itself.
