I love shoot-em-ups and like a bitter jaded old man, I refuse to call them Shmups. Probably out of some misplaced anger towards internet lingo and nonsense word creation in name of laziness. like I said, bitter jaded old man. I get that! I used to call them shooters but now I think most people think I'm talking about FPS games so grudgingly say shmups. Currently wading through the chaos that is Super Star Soldier on PC Engine, great shooter.

Favorites have to be Shmups (sorry Chappy, it works for me, lol) and Action Platformers. I used to hate Shmups when I was a kid, had no interest in them at all. As I've gotten older I've found I enjoy them a lot. I like the fact I can pick a game up, play it for 15 minutes before work and still feel like a satisfying experience. I also like the difficulty of Shmups, I feel great when I make it farther than before on a good run.

I've come to adopt shmups in my vocabulary as well, mostly because of the 20 somethings I game with sometimes. If you say shooter their brain immediately goes to FPS. When you can say shooter amongst some friends and they know what you mean then you've found some keepers haha.
My favorite genres are 2D platformers, action RPGs, and I used to play a really broad range of fighters but in my old age I mostly stick to Capcom ones. When I have the money and free time to travel I like to head out to tournaments for those and I find that if you focus on no more than 3 games you tend to perform a bit better. That's not to say I'm not down to hop into some casuals on pretty much anything that's being played haha.
