I picked up an Action Replay for my Saturn about a month ago and figured I would let you guys know how it's working out. Overall I'm really pleased with it even tho they are getting a little pricey. If any of you are interested in one, Amazon is the cheapest I've found so far at $27.00. Even though it is a cheat device the main reason I purchased one was for the ability to play Japanese Saturn games on my US console. I've had no issues using this method to play imports and it works great. As far as the "cheats" feature goes it mostly works well. Some of the codes make the games a little wonky but overall this works pretty well too. It has a nice menu that's easy to navigate and it allows you to input and save additional codes you enter onto the cart. Which brings me to the last feature I want to talk about, the save memory. Your stock Sega Saturn has about 500 give or take "blocks" of memory, the Action Replay gives you an additional 8000 blocks! This is just awesome because I've noticed while some games only use 5-12 blocks of memory some (Nights) uses 197! It's super easy to copy your stuff over to the cart as well as moving it from the cart to the Saturn if you want to play a game without the Action Replay in your Saturn and I suggest doing this if you don't plan on using any cheats. Nights in particular locks up a lot when the Action Replay is in my Saturn but runs just fine without it. Overall, I say it's a sound investment if you own a Saturn to have one.

I think the sega genesis game genie was the only device I ever actually cheated with. Most other ones I used to like boot an import or burnt game or something.
Looking back I probably wasnt that great at games as a kid for the hobby to stick so I probably have game genei for nes and genesis to thank for giving me that little leg up to keep me hooked.

I can remember game genie was used for cheatin but sometimes that could back fire lol. Playing journey to silious when i was little, i loved this game but it was also hard as hell! I found a game genie code for infinite life and ammo i believe so i told myself im gonna mow through this game. About stage 4 i think something happened to where i got stuck between an enemy and a ledge which caused me to not move. Their was no timer, i couldnt die, and i wasnt moving so the only thing i could do was either reset or turn it off. I was sooo pissed i turned it off and i think thats the last time i ever used game genie cause i didnt trust it lol.

Some bizarre things you can do with a game genie:
There's a code for Sonic 1 to replace all the sound effects in the game with the "SEGAAAA" vocalization from the opening. It can get extremely annoying extremely fast. I'm not positive but I'm sure it's not good for your console to do this one either. Best saved for a prank.
Watch for games with an attract mode (the cpu controlled demo when you let the title screen sit too long) where the demo ends when the cpu/character gets killed and then enter some kind of invincibility code to prevent death. This usually carries over to that demo and you can see some strange things happen. In Bio Hazard Battle for example the cpu will continue to play the stage on through the boss with different results. When it shows stage 1 in the demo the cpu stops playing at the point beyond where it's supposed to get killed and go back to the Sega logo. Since there's no boss in that stage it loads up stage 2 but with the stage 1 music still playing. The cpu still won't control the ship though so you'll have to reset the game once it gets to the boss. If you let the stage 2 demo play the cpu will actually play entirely through the level and fight the boss. Once the boss is killed stage 3 will load with stage 2's music playing but the cpu doesn't play.
Another prank one. There's some codes for Megaman 2 that sets the value of the power ups to infinity as well as the lifebar value to infinity. So what happens is the game freezes (as in how it freezes for a brief moment while your bar fills) only it stays permanently frozen and plays that annoying high pitched beep while the game tries to fill the bar to infinity.
There are some codes for the first version of Street Fighter 2 for SNES that allow you to "play" as the boss characters. What it does is replaces Ryu with whatever boss code you put in for hilarious results. For example if you try to play Vega, throwing a Hadoken makes him do a weird flip and shoot the fireball out of his stomach.
