As the title suggests, have you ever won a video game related contest or perhaps received video games as a prize? As a kid I always dreamed of somehow being a contestant on that Johnny Arcade show or even Nick arcade and not only showing off my gaming skills but be able to bring home some sweet prizes in the process. In my adult life I've won Street Fighter and other fighting game tournaments for cash. The closest I've ever come to winning a contest of sorts in the 90's was when my brother, cousin and I found a golden "Sonic on a Skateboard" figurine in a box of Cookie Crisp. The regular figure was blue but if you found a gold one you could mail it in for a Game Gear and some other prizes. Of course we were more interested in playing with the thing so eventually it was lost

Well, I haven't directly won a video game contest, but I did end up winning a competition that would lead to my first time playing a game that would become one of my favorites of all time. I won a business competition in school, first in the county, then state, then went on to compete on the national level that was held in Disney World (back in 1998). For years, Epcot Center Innoventions West hosted Sega consoles, and that year, they had Sega Saturn, and they had tons of TV's and Sega Saturns with NiGHTS and Clockwork Knights to play. I played both, but if memory serves me, I ended up playing NiGHTS for at least 2 hours, ha ha. I had seen commercials for it, but that was the first time I ever played it, and I love that my first time playing it was at Epcot Center. I found a good deal on it and a Saturn the next year, but I'll always remember those couple of hours in Epcot Center as happy ones!

Man you guys must really have loved that hedgehog. That was thing back then, their were no video game merch in the US. We were so obsessed with sonic at the time when we saw that their was a sonic figure in the box of cereal we ripped that thing open not even looking at the contest details. It was like so many years later when we realized thier was a contest involved and you could imagine how we felt. Thats why I collect alot of merch today cause back then all we had was a bubblegum sonic figure and a knock off rubber link figure. Ill probably make a thread later so we can share our collectibles.
Just like fist i also have won many fighting game tournaments. I didnt really win a game but one time with 50 cents i won a copy of bad news bears on dvd when it first came out and took that movie to walmart and traded it in for a game lol.

I won a counter-strike: source tournament with some of my friends my junior year in college. We each pocketed a couple hundred dollars. I actually remember taking my winnings to EB Games (Gamestop to my American friends ) and buying Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Ghost Recon Advance Warfare 2 on Xbox 360. That Need for Speed MW still gets played today, it's one of the best NFS games, up there with Underground 2.
