I just thought of an interesting topic today. Scrolling through twitter checking out all the gaming news, homebrews, gaming finds, and reviews i got to thinking. When the hell was the last time i bought a brand new game from a store? Besides street fighter v here recently i cant think of anything. How many new games actual do get bought on a daily basis compared to used/retro gaming. Im not trying to look into the science bullshit of how a game was once new and now its used cause someone bought it new at one point. Im just curious to has classic games reached a level of dominating new games on a personal stand point?
Like i said im not trying to get into the science of this but i feel like nowadays i get more excited about buying and playing a game from the 80s/90s then i do a brand new game from any store. Not only that, all my next gen consoles are filled with games that are re-released retro games or indie games that are inspired by certain retro gaming.
Dont get me wrong i like new games out today. I love the new battlefront on my xbox one and i want to play the new doom coming out. But for some reason i get more fucking excited going to the flea market and getting a mickey castle of illusions than i do getting the new doom coming out lol. Whats your guys thoughts?

You're fully committed to retro. I don't know how much there is to read into.

Honestly it doesn't feel like it because we are so submerged in the hobbie but we/us are still the minority. I still get the question from the kids at work "do you game?" "Of course!" "What do you play?" "Sega Genesis, Saturn, Original Xbox and occasionally NES, SNES and Master System" "What the fuck are those?" Lmao, I'm a dinosaur to them. It really fucks them up when I tell them I own a PS4 and DONT play CoD, BattleField or Minecraft.

Anyway, realized I didn't really address the topic directly. It just depends on the game. I was pretty excited to buy SF5 but I wouldn't be in this hobbie if I didn't enjoy the rush of finding a game I wanted or a good deal on something that has some value. I really don't care that much about the value of these games but I would be lying if I said I didn't think about it.

I think age and life circumstances are a factor as well.
Modern games aren't really a bite sized experience. Most triple A titles require you to sink hours upon hours of play in order to make progress.
So for say a single person with no kids or school or responsibilities it might be more appealing to spend more of your free time in a lengthier experience.
As you grow older and add more of the said responsibilities to your life, more bite sized games might be more appealing.
That's where retro and indie gaming comes in as those titles are more akin to the short bursts arcade experience.

Note my above post is more my own experience and observation. I know other people with just as much responsibility as me that find the time to play triple A titles.

Currently I'm in a mode where I'm not so much collecting retro cause I'm not exactly trying to amass things at all. I hope to change my living scenario and move sooner or later to a new state entirely. So I really would have pairing down more on my mind than buying things...
Same goes for modern games really. Haven't bought one since Fallout 4 (and Fallout is kinda my modern gaming jam).

If I get a big triple A title like a Skyrim or Fallout then it usually lasts me the entire year haha. Helps me save a lot when it comes to modern gaming but boy do I fall behind the times. Also, when are you moving here and not some other place?

It's stupid cold here like half the year or more... Even the "summers" here seem like way more cloudy crappy days than warm pleasant days.

I hear you, im up in the one of the provinces above ya I got a new laptop recently so been playing pretty much modern games with the occasional 90's RTS thrown in. Looking to get back into the old stuff again as really they were far more imaginative between say 1995-2005. Dont know anyone who likes to talk about the classics though except on twitter and you guys here on the MegaBase. As for buying from now on I dont collect retro anymore, just hardware and flash carts is enough for me.

Even with cartridge boxes, that stuff adds up over time.
