I've always thought these maps were cool. Whether monsters are real or not its always cool to check out your local legend. What monsters do you find interesting?

They need to revise this map to include the elusive Wood Booger! The Mothman has always creeped me out. I love that the whole town of Point Plesant embrace the fact that something strange happened there.
You know, I can't remember ever hearing of any "Monsters" in my area growing up. It was more of a ghost story kind of place.

Apparently the wampu cat is close to my area. Far from there I can remember stories some would tell of a large dark colored cat up in the white top Konarock area. Tons of the stories are fake on tv but I can't help to be glued to these stories in general of myth monsters. The whole Mothman, skunk ape, and Jersey Devil stories were always my favorite myth tales.

Now that you mention it, my wife's grandfather told me a story about when he was hunting he came across a big black cat in the woods. I always thought he was full of shit because it couldn't be black, a big black cat would be a panther right? Guess it was the Wampu! This apparently happened in Dickenson county.

Yeah it seems like the Eastern TN and Southwest VA area is usually more rich in Ghost stories. However, on two separate occasions I've been chatting with someone who sincerely believe in the Wood Booger's existence. One was telling me about some kind of mushroom or truffle they harvest in the spring time that sell for big cash. She said she could never tell me where her "spot" was (not that I even asked) because the land was territory to the Wood Booger of those parts. Once she mentioned that I had to know more. She said that somehow her blood line was "approved" to be in that area by the creature and that anyone else that wandered in would probably meet a cruel fate. Apparently everyone in her family see it at least once in their life because it's always watching that area. She said her sighting happened when she was a little girl. All she could tell me was that it was like a very large man, dark and very hairy but not exactly ape-like per se. Spooky stuff.
Another dude was back in college of all places. You know the one old bearded dude that seems to enroll in community college in their 50's. Anyway, somehow we got on the subject of where our families were from and I mentioned that my family lived up in Green Cove near Konarock VA for a time. When I said we visit there sometimes he became deeply concerned about me hiking in the woods there. I was like "dude that's not my thing but why?" He sincerely told me Wood Boogers roam through there at certain times of the year and that they'll beat a man to death if they think you're scoping out territory or trying to move in on their mates. I was just like "dude I'm totally not going to be chasing Wood Booger tail in the woods ever." He got real serious, or maybe offended, and said "you'd best stay out of those woods boy because you won't get the chance then to tell me I'm right."

Uh oh...Wampus cat!! I'd better keep an eye peeled. Wasn't a Wampus something on Star Wars? He he regardless of the name its kind of scary that panther like could be stalking the mounntains back home. Does the wampus have any special traits or anything that make it particularly spooky? Such as how a mountain lion can emulate the cries of a human child, which has led to some deaths. I think that's pretty creepy.

I believe the wampus legend is of an indian woman cursed and transformed into the wampus cat and it does lure hunters by making the cries of a helpless woman.

Yeah, I used to love to read about Mothman in West Virginia. Wasn't it seen around some bridge in about 1977? About 6 feet tall with glowing red eyes. Point Pleasant? Something that started with a P? I need to look it back up. I loved keeping up with Nessie, Bigfoot, and all kinds of weird stuff growing up. I didn't find out about Mothman until I was a teenager, but I still find the whole legends surrounding "monsters" interesting.

Okay I didnt know whether or not to post this in this thread or night watch but here goes. This past saturday night about 11 i was on my porch when i heard a strange hollar from the woods across the road. At first i was like what the hell was that? Someone is either in danger or trying to sing the theme to daytona usa and they suck at it. I heard it again and i was just like screw it im not getting involved so i went inside for the night.
Yesterday i found some packages in my mail that dont belong to me so i take em across the road to my neighbors where they belong. The man of the house steps outside to ask me a question. He wanted to know if i heard all the noise from saturday night and at first i didnt know what he was talking about until he mentioned something about hollars. He said him and his family came home about 12 and said the dogs next door were going apeshit at something big. He said he could hear it growl and grunt and it sounded nothing like a bear, something bigger. He got his family in and grabbed his pistol (hes a cop). He waited for awhile and then he heard a loud hollar that just made everything silent. Thats when he said screw this im going in. He asked me if anything strange was in the area and i said not that i know of. So now im on woodbooger watch everynight lol.

That dude is either a master prankster or its WoodBooger mating season. Strap a Go-Pro on your cats. After watching their battles in Feline ThunderDome see if you can find any Booger footage! You could become famous OR get a visit from the Men In Black.
