Suprised this hasnt come up yet but why not share some examples of cool cover art with the forum. They don't necessarily have to be badass but can fit in the so-bad-its-good category or just general mind blowing artwork. Heres just a few examples I can think of right now: Warhawk (PSX)
To be honest, I've never even played this game but always loved the cover. This is how sci-fi should be. Speedball 2 (MD but originally Amiga)People who know me probably get fed up when I talk about this game... even the cover screams awesome. The US version got a different cover which was ok but less intimidating. Dynamite Headdy (Mega Drive - Japan)One of those so bad its really really bad covers, compared to brilliant US cover and not bad Europe cover you gotta point and laugh at the Japan one. DH has some of the best and most colourful 2d graphics on the system so they decided to represent this with the most boring and washed out 3d rendering they could create. What were you thinking Sega Japan? Cyborg hunter (SMS)Most American collectors assume that the SMS had no decent art work but this isnt necessarily true (especially for European versions where they at least half tried). Case in point... a Star Wars stormtrooper shooting a winged Cylon from the original Battle Star Galactica. Secret Command (SMS)But on the flip side heres the European version of what was called Rambo First Blood Part 2 in the US. They only gave him one arm and couldnt be bothered to draw a mouth!? Also is that a wifigun? Its giving off sonic waves.

Love this idea! Great thread. That Speedball 2 cover reminds me of Yukito Kishiro's early work. That dude looks like someone Battle Angel Alita would tangle with. The desperation Cyborg Hunter must feel. "I sure hope this shot works because I don't want to know what those crazy wings are for!" Wifi gun haha. If any of you have an appreciation for the Sonic the Hedgehog covers I'd suggest you take a look at this link to a forum post on Nintendo Age that came about when the artist, Greg Martin, passed away. The thread contains a lot of personal accounts from people that knew him as well as some rare unused pieces of his work. There's a log of Sonic yeah but he had a hand in tons of other stuff. Check it out: nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=117907

Angry Video Game Nerd James Rolfe just featured this baby in a video series highlighting bad cover art... I say he's wrong. Soooooo wrong.

This is the cover art for a (from what I can tell) mostly forgotten Beat Em' Up on Genesis, "Growl". Since it's a Taito game the cart itself doesn't have a border around it, the entire sticker is filled with this awesome art and looks badass sitting in your Genesis/MD. Although I am going after an EverDrive soon I still want to grab a physical copy of this game.

I don't think I could handle the awesome if that guy in the background had a boom box instead of a rocket launcher.

I like those modern Atari art covers, most of them are really cool.

I always liked the cover art on the SNES Lethal Enforcers box. So much going on here: There was always something I liked about the Secret of Evermore U.S. cover art, too. It's a little reminiscent of It, Spiderman, and who knows ... but I always liked it. I thought it was a bit risky, creepy, icky, but fun for an RPG. I always thought the Moon Patrol cartridge had neat artwork. Good game, too.

This is not how I envisaged the Bomberman Universe. Someone once said to me this was awful but this is easily one of the best Sega covers ever!

I didn't know Dinosaurs for Hire was a comic book
I absolutely love the paintings they used to do for Atari game covers. Especially space game ones that look like they would fit right on the cover of a science fiction novel.
I'm not sure what this is supposed to be but I really like the artwork. Pretty sure this is not a real game

View Attachment LOL ... the "rainbow tennis" is actually the cover for Super Breakout, minus the hilariously semi-accurate title. XD
