Well here we go guys, I'll be playing on Tuesday so I'll post about my play experience that evening. Didn't know this game is by SunSoft! Anybody played it yet?

I played through the Mega Drive version last night. It's a solid comfy Christmas experience for sure. I don't know if I'll be playing it all the time or anything, but it's definitely something to bust out for the holidays.
The music is pretty basic and on the easy listening side, but it kind of reminded me of the stuff in Peggle, and I found myself humming along after too long. The backgrounds are pretty much the kind of stuff you would expect in a Christmas game: a snowfield, Santa's house, toy factory etc. They do have a nice hand drawn look to them and actually remind me of the stuff you see in Earthworm Jim. I love the preview graphic they show you before each stage. 30 in all to see for each day of December haha.
Santa controls pretty good and he has a nice walking speed and jumping ability. His magic dust Sonic Boom has a really generous hitbox so you don't have to be terribly accurate with it.
The game is really easy and will probably take you about 45 minutes to an hour to blow through on single player. It's not blatantly kids game easy though, just some really basic platforming. The few times I did die was because of some blind jumps, but if you're not sure be sure to stop and you can move the screen up or down like in Sonic 1. I'd say they found just the right difficulty for all the kids in the family to gather around the tv and have a quick Christmas adventure together.
The Anti-Claus thing actually seems really out of place to me. By the time I had tried it a few times I ended up avoiding the coffee cups (I think that's what they are) all together. Yeah it makes you invincible but you can't pick up or open any presents which hurts your score. You don't have a projectile like normal Santa either. The best thing about Anti-Claus is his head stomp animation (hold the jump button after jumping to hop on enemies head) it's hilarious. I think it'd be a cooler feature if there were areas where you could only reach as Anti-Claus or some other mechanic to make it more useful.
Gonna give the SNES version a spin later and then I think I'll do a more expanded review if anything is different.

I love how Santa looks in this game. The map screen or whatever you want to call it really brought back some memories. My family used to keep calendars like that in the kitchen so we could count down the days before Christmas. This game is really cute!

One word: Simple. The controls, level design, music, overall gameplay, simple. That's not a bad thing either. Very elementary Adventure Platformer that I would def suggest to others. I had fun playing it and look forward to letting my Daughter give a try sometime. Guess if I had to find something to gripe about it would be the evil Santa thing. I just didn't get it or understand what the benefit of using it was but that's about it. Fun game, nice suggestion guys!

It feels like the evil santa hurts your game because you can't pick anything up. I think it would be more fun if he was significantly better than regular santa. Make him really fast and give him like a double jump or something.
Even better would be the ability to take those power ups with you so you could activate one during a boss fight. Not that you really need any extra help with them.
This game is really cute and I am disappointed it did not get a physical release here.
