I'm finally playing Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII on PS2, I picked it up today. There's so much hate for this game, but I'm trying it out anyway, lol. Might as well fuel my semi-dormant Vincent Valentine crush, right? Hahaha.
Edit: I've played this for over an hour, and I really like it so far. I don't get the hate, but I personally enjoy the gameplay and storyline ... there are some characters that shouldn't be here, lol, but that's about it.

I downloaded MegaMan Legends on my Vita, waiting until I finish Phantasy Star before playing but booted it up just see how well the polygon graphics hold up these days. Pleasantly surprised, the cartoonish look they used has helped it age much better than other games of the time that went for a more realistic look. Legends is $10 on PSN as opposed to the usual $6 for a PS1 game so I'm guessing there are looking to make some cash from the fan base of the series. Fine with me because after releasing Misadventures and Legends within 3 months they should be posting Legends 2 around the first of the year. Really looking forward to playing that one again, I only played through it once when I had it but I do remember it being a good sequel, improved graphics and gameplay all around. I also remember trading my copy into Game Stop for like $10 back in the day...if only...lol Mighty Number 9 was supposed to be out around this time so I think they were just looking to make some cash off the Megaman nostalgia that would come along with that. Unfortunately that game has been held back for some reason so they missed the boat. I was planning on getting Mega Man Legends for a while as I read they were doing a physical release but in the end it was just a digital one. At least Shovel knight is getting a disc release soon!

I've been thinking a lot about current consoles and their collectibility. So many games are released buggy and requiring patches, and to my knowledge the patches you download are not retained on your console if you delete the game file to make room. So, ten years down the line if you want to play your old PS4 games but the network is down and no patches are available, you're stuck with your buggy game.

I pity the age where the modern consoles now are considered retro and people get stuck trying to get their old games back. You're either going to run into the situation you just described or you're going to be searching ebay for consoles that have the game you're looking for installed. That is unless 10 years from now people find a way to dump the games from consoles that are no longer supported online and create system hacks to allow you to redownload them from private servers. Already there are a lot of Xbox Live titles that have been removed from the servers and can no longer be downloaded again. So if you don't have them on a disk collection or already on your console there's no way to get them. Not legally anyway.

Playing "Lords of Thunder" and "Time Gal" for the Sega CD with Phantasy Star sessions sprinkled in between. A Hudsonsoft Shmup on the Sega CD!? Somehow this one just slipped thru the cracks, had never heard of it until this weekend. It's flippin awesome but a bit too easy if you ask me, still worth a play if you guys get a chance. Kind of like "Phelios" and "Fantasy Zone" had a Shmup baby, lol, kind of... Attachments:

I've started my halloween themed games a bit late this year, but I'm going to try to play something different each night as the holiday approaches. Right now I've found myself addicted to Master of Darkness on the Master System. It was cut from the cloth of Castlevania but has such a cool atmosphere, a little more grounded in reality being set in the Victorian era. I may have to do a review of this one before the end of the week.

The funniest thing is how when the frame rate kind of drops when there are a lot of enemies it actually adds to the experience. It gives it this choppy old horror movie vibe. For example like right in the beginning of the game when you get overwhelmed by those naked children things in the alleyway. The pixelated fog and snow do a lot for the atmosphere too in my opinion.

I finally got a copy of Splatterhouse 3 in a trade this week. Gonna get some quality time with it tomorrow in the spirit of halloween. I've had it in the past and traded it away for stuff, but it's such a great beat em up. I don't know why I trade away good games, blah.

I think you try to convince yourself you're done with the game you are trading but once the game is gone a little while later you realize you will never be done with that game.

While browsing through PSN I decided to take a $5 gamble on Jumping Flash. I played it a lot years ago and enjoyed it but wasn't sure how kind the years have been to it. While yes, it certainly looks dated the gameplay is still intact and is still a lot of fun. I'll probably play the crap out of it tonight ha ha! I Los went ahead and picked up Resident Evil since it was so cheap.

The graphics don't look terrible these days and the music is fantastic in both of them. I've been playing Burning Force on the Genesis. I finished the game last night, now I'm just trying to get better at it and improve my score. Thanks Brandon for hooking me up with this gem!

I haven't got to play a whole lot of it yet because I was finishing up work for a class, but I hope to get to play it more soon. You're right, the pixelated fog/snow/ash really does add to the creepy factor!!
