So I've been putting a lot of thought into buying an Ever Drive after the holidays. I'm not looking to get a complete Genesis collection and I've really only got a few more game I feel I can't live without so it just makes financial sense in my situation. Do any of you guys own one? Can you compare how a game plays on the EverDrive to the Physical Cart? Can't tell the difference? Please do tell!

I had to look into this to know what you were talking about. It sounds cool and kind of expensive up front but in the end would save you a lot if you think it would keep you from having to buy new cartridges in the future. I have never messed with one so I have no idea what the quality is.

You cannot tell the difference between a real cart and the everdrive since they are running the same program on the same hardware. I have a mega everdrive and although its pricier than the standard everdrive, games load instantly and you can save and load at any second on the sd card like you would if you played an emulator. Plus you can use it to backup segacd saves which i know you really like that system. Also it plays 99.99% of SMS, Genesis and 32X games. The only one im aware of that doesnt work is Virtua Racer as it had a special graphics chip but it plays the far superior 32X port no problem so it doesnt matter. Actually no it wont play Pier Solar as that game is too big (I think 64mb) and the guy who made the everdrive doesnt want people pirating new games like that so he wont change it so thats 2 of the 1000s of games.

Wait so you have access to the master system library too?
I wonder if you get an ever drive for nes if you can load it with famicom games.

Stone age gamer is the site i got it from as it came with a pre cut cartridge and a memory card but you can buy it direct from krikzz without all the frilly bits for cheaper.

SMS roms dont play if you try running through a 32X though. Your other question yes you can play famicom on nes everdrive. I think it even runs famicom disc system games too although itd be missing the extra sound channel the system uses.

I'm surprised more people don't go this route if they just want to play the games and aren't interested in collecting the cartridges.

I think the main reason more people don't buy them is they somehow feel like their cheating. Plus, you can't totally brag on YouTube about the Ever Drive you just bought, lol, hate to put it that way but there are some people like that.

As I've said before, I think a lot of the youtuber crowd go for a large collection simply for a backdrop to their videos haha.

I bought an Everdrive for my TG-16 since I have no nostalgic attachment to the system and I wanted to play some of the amazing Shmups (Shooters, whatever) on it. If there was a system I was actively interested in collecting for I don't think I would get an Everdrive. I would probably just get lazy and stop buying games for said console. I had flirted with the idea of getting one for my SNES when I recently repurchased one, but instead I bought some carts (probably way too many at this point).

I think after the holidays are over I'll take the plunge on an ever drive. I've got all the cartridges for the games I love as a kid so I'm not actively hunting anything anymore. I don't think it'll deter me from picking up a 5 dollar cart here and there though. I think I'm more interested in it for the master system library anyway and some of those more hard to reach 32X titles.
Thanks for the info everyone!

Anyone here use chipped systems? I have a chipped Saturn although the laser is on the way out. Pretty sure I will be selling off most of my CD based games soon apart from things like Xbox/PS3 and go strictly burnt CD route for a variety of reasons that I wont bore you all with (90's disc based systems are just the worst). Still debating if i'll put my cartridge collecting on hold/sell and go down the everdrive/flashcart route. Starting to feel like they are just a better investment for me personally... apart from N64 and Neo Geo stuff I have pretty much every mainstream system and for the price of a few decent games I can pick up an everdrive for each one and play them all to my hearts content. Now if only Krikzz would make a Neo Geo AES everdrive I would run out and pawn off all my furniture to buy one of dem sweet sweet AES'.

I got one of them Neo Geo X replica handheld/console thingies. It's pretty rad. The joystick is very accurately reproduced.
