You guys may be aware of this already but some games in the Genesis/MegaDrive library have trouble with the 6-button controller. Mrs. Pac Man, Golden Axe 2 and Road Avenger are a few that I've noticed myself. I just learned today that if you hold down the 'Mode' button on your 6-button controller while booting up the console it actual corrects this problem in most of the games! It's not 100%, some games still will not work but I can confirm that Golden Axe 2 will work just fine using this Pro Tip. You guys ever used this trick? What are some other games that have trouble with the 6-button controller? What is that mode button actually for anyway? Besides the aforementioned use to switch the controller from 6-3 button mode, it was used in a few 32X/CD games (and maybe later Genesis releases?) as a 7th button. Switched the view from the cockpit in Shadow Squadron and Star Wars on 32x.

Yeah, it's used quite a bit in 32X games.

Just out of curiosity, anyone know how to bypass the region lock on a Model 2 Sega CD? Had a few Jap Mega CD games I really want to play but it only lets me listen to the soundtrack.

Yup Everdrive will load any bios for sega cd. Think it is hardware dependant though i.e. trying to use a Wondermega bios on a model 1 CD wont work play any discs. Edit: also if you burn the discs you can change the region of the game with a specific program.

So disappointed yesterday. As you guys already know I picked up an original Xbox last week because the prices on 90% library are just dirt cheap right now. Plus, Sega has quite a few amazing titles on the console. Two of the games I've been looking forward to playing are Gunvalkyrie and Panzer Dragoon Orta, both exclusives for the console from Sega. Well popped in Gunvalkyrie yesterday to be greeted with a bunch of scrambled nonsense on my screen. Turns out late in the consoles life Microsoft changed the video chip or something making around half a dozen games unplayable in the console. Guess what two of those games are? Yup, I'm pretty bummed about it but need to ask, have any of you guys ever modded an original Xbox? I know there is a HUGE community of modders for this console but I've never done it myself so I'm a little over my head. Think it would be easier just save my game files to a memory card and buy another Xbox?
Update: after doing a bit more research turns out this chip in the 1.6 Xbox breaks the 480p support for ALOT of games in the library. This might be a deal breaker for me, think I might need to just get another Xbox because even if I mod the console looks like I won't be able to enjoy those games in 480p. These two games in particular are known for still looking amazing to this day especially Orta. Grrrrr, stupid Microsoft.
Update 2: ok, so I CAN play these games (yeah!) but unfortunately not in glorious 480p. I have to disable the HD settings in the dashboard to make them work. So at least I can play them, going to go try out Gunvalkyrie now...

Not sure what the thrift shops are like in your area but the ones in my city are rubbish for gaming but I still see xboxs all the time for 15-20 bucks.

That sucks I'm sorry Is there any way you can tell what kind of Xbox you are getting? Like how can you tell a 1.6 Xbox from the other ones?

Looks like I have the same crappy version as you (1.6). Not that I mind much, think I'm just gonna donate it to a charity shop.

Lol, I swear if the issues were with any other games except arguably two of the best exclusive games it wouldnt be that big of a deal. Understandable reaction.

Is the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games? Is it a limited amount of games or the entire library?

The original big fat ones were backwards compatible. So unless I have one with the Spider-Man font I'm out of luck? I'm not sure what model I have...it's not one of the originals, that I'm sure of.

I used to have one back in England and I wouldnt recommend it anyway since its emulated with the usual problems that come with emulation. Not got a PS2 lying around? Theres like 150 million out there if youre wanting to get back into that mighty system.
