Pat seems like a nice bloke, but he condemns "shelf collectors" a lot when he himself has a colossal hoard. I heard him say in a podcast hes barely played any Master System games even though he actually has a full set for it. To me thats taking out 114 games out of the hands of genuine fans of the system, which considering its hard to come by a lot of those games out here in North America is a real shame. He totally has some shelf collector tendencies. Case in point, your example. I think anybody that has full sets for multiple consoles has clearly crossed the line into shelf collector territory. When it comes down to it you're likely only playing, what, maybe 20 to 30 of your favorites regularly out of the gargantuan set? The rest might get played once just because they got it or for the purposes of a review, then they're made to collect dust on a shelf. I get the feeling from a lot of youtubers that the purpose of their retro collection is to act as a background for their videos, especially the ones that never really talk about anything retro to begin with.

Lmao, holy crap your totally right! I can think of at least 6 YouTubers off the top of my head who record their videos right in front of their shelf!

Figured I would bump this thread since the ol' Retro VGS has now become...(drumroll please)....THE COLECO CHAMELEON! Lmao, just when you thought they couldn't go any farther in the wrong direction...or did they?

At this point its pretty obvious they are determined to get the most out of those case molds as possible. Seems like making a clone console is probably the most logical thing they could do and I guess they chose Coleco as the licensing is cheap and not a lot of competition. Dont know if its necessarily my thing but pre NES consoles dont seem to get much love so cant really be terrible for the hobby. To be honest I know almost nothing about coleco except the stuff I've seen on Classic Game Room.
I'm sure a clone console is far more realistic than the lofty goals they had with the VGS. Also on their facebook page they say they are putting together a working prototype presumably before going to kickstarter so it should get funded. It will just be another system on a chip however which to me is not much more than an emulator in a fancy case and kinda pointless for cartridges with roms the size of kilobytes. Either way I wish them good luck.

Kind of an odd move when Dollar stores across the country are still stocking that Coleco plug and play replica console for around 20 bucks. Seems to me like the whole thing has just turned to sad desperation to make some kind of use of the molds they got. If only they had bought the molds for a console people care about. For example if someone was producing translucent/colored Genesis/Mega Drive casings I'd be all over that.

You know thats the thing about this system its made of nothing but turds from video game history. The jaguar shell to the third party wii u controller and now the name? Whats next they are gonna jump on the VR band wagon and bring out a lime green virtual boy with purple leopard spots. Call it colec virtual vision, hell im done taking this damn thing serious. They might as well also bring back the screen interface cards you put on your tv, the only catch is it only fits 32 inch hd lcd screens and the cost $20 a cardThis This thing is nothing but a homer simpson car.

Was it the coleco vision that required the screen overlays to play?
This whole thing is silly and I think your money would be better spent on a retron 5.

Yeah, it was cool but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the COLECO was their favorite console ever, lol

Kind of related...but I wonder what's going on with that Tiny Knight game that was going to be a pack in cart for the Retro VGS. It actually looked like a pretty neat game.

Yeah, it was cool but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the COLECO was their favorite console ever, lol I'm bored and watching Scrubs on Netflix and the Turk character is telling a story and he just said "when I was 7 the only things I loved were my ColecoVision and Sandy Lowe" LOL
